Choose the work you want to do before comparing equipment. For every track, document: work tasks, software and workflow requirements, compute requirements, accessibility considerations, minimum and preferred capabilities, and questions requiring individual assessment.
| Track | Begin with these tasks |
| Software development | Edit code, run tests, manage versions, collaborate. |
| Game development | Build and test interactive systems, assets, and levels. |
| Video | Capture, edit, review, caption, render, and deliver. |
| Audio | Record, edit, mix, monitor, export, and archive. |
| Design | Research, compose, prototype, review, and export. |
| Hybrid creative technology | Combine code, media, interactive tools, and production workflows. |
Optional project exercise: maker game systems compares a proposed digital pinball pilot with an unbuilt Duet LED chessboard design study. Their project repositories retain their own rules and approval boundaries.
After choosing a track, use the accessibility guidance, then build a technology plan.
Do not begin with a brand or device model. A product is justified only after the work and required capabilities are documented.
